Counselling Support for Women, Children and Young People (CARA)
Please be aware the CARA service is not currently taking new referrals. There may be other organisations, who may be able to offer support.
CARA is a free and confidential trauma-informed service, providing counselling to women, children and young people who have experienced or been exposed to domestic abuse, sexual abuse, rape and/or sexual assault. Domestic abuse includes emotional, physical, financial and sexual abuse.
Women and children (all genders) can be referred by organisations e.g. health, education. They must be in agreement with the referral and reside in West Dunbartonshire. Women are also able to self-refer.

Counselling aims to create a safe space where people can reflect on their experiences. Counsellors will offer a non-judgmental environment where thoughts, feelings and behaviours can be explored. People can be supported to gain new insights and understanding, re-assess and improve coping skills.
We offer:
- Person centred counselling, up to 12 sessions
- In-person appointments in Dumbarton and Clydebank
- Telephone appointments
- Appointments in schools for children and young people
Our service has a waiting list, and we may be able to offer signposting to alternative services where this is appropriate.
